In My Glass: 2011 90+ Cellars Sancerre Lot 69

90+ Lot 69 SancerreDespite five or more feet of snow in my yard, I am optimistic that crocuses and green grass are just around the corner. In celebration of Daylight Saving Time and with hopes of beckoning the advent of spring, it was time for a springlike meal centered on asparagus and sauteed chicken. This meal could only be paired with a wine that has always reminded me of the coming season: Sancerre.

In the glass, this 90+ Cellars selection is pale yellow with a glimmer of green. The nose has lots of grapefruit and a fresh herbacious character, but the palate is where the punch is. Pink grapefruit and lemon appear straight away, followed by a strong mid-palate that has a bit of a candied fruit flavor. A touch chalky, Lot 69 reminds the drinker just where this wine came from. Dry with medium plus, mouth-watering acidity and medium weight.  Lingering fresh grapefruity finish. Very good on a regular day and downright delicious on a day that I’m longing for spring!

At The Vin Bin in Hopkinton for $15.99.
