In My Glass: 2012 Domaine Pral Rosé of Beaujolais Nouveau

The 2012 Domain Pral Rose of Beaujolais Nouveau

As I perused the rosé aisle in Julio’s Liquors this past weekend a new wine caught my eye.  It was not just pink, but really, really pink.  The color alone caused me to pause and look again: it was a rosé of Beaujolais Nouveau of the 2012 vintage. It has been a number of years since I last drank a recently-released Beaujolais Nouveau – too simple, too much hype – but a rosé of Beaujolais Nouveau was too much to pass up.

I suspected that this offering from the organic producer Domaine Marion Pral would be similar to a red Beaujolais Nouveau – fresh and fruity, with loads of strawberry and banana notes – and I was right. Lots of strawberry and bubble gum on the nose and palate. With its medium-high acidity and really low tannins this is a fun, playful, food-friendly wine.  A pleasant fruity finish. Definitely one to drink now.

At Julio’s Liquors for $11.99.
